Founded in 1994, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History promotes the study and love of American history. The Institute serves teachers, students, scholars, and the general public. The Institute also awards the Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and George Washington Book Prizes, and offers fellowships for scholars to work in the Gilder Lehrman Collection.
Teachers Curriculum Institute -http://www.teachtci.com/
TCI is a unique K–12 social studies publisher created by teachers, for teachers. For almost 20 years we have partnered with fellow educators to fundamentally change how social studies is taught in the classroom. TCI is different from other educational publishers because we recognize that every student learns differently and all students benefit from learning in multiple ways. That is why each of our K–12 programs is based on the TCI Approach—a set of proven teaching strategies and practices that brings learning alive and achieves consistent, positive classroom results while being mindful of educational standards.
McConnell Center - http://www.mcconnellcenter.org/
The McConnell Center was established in 1991 by Kentucky's senior U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and the University of Louisville. McConnell, a 1964 graduate of the University, founded the Center based on his belief that "Kentucky's future depends on inspiring talented, motivated leaders." The McConnell Center is dedicated to providing a non-partisan, well rounded education that encourages top undergraduates to become valued citizens and future leaders of the commonwealth and the nation. The Center also facilitates public discourse on the major challenges of our time while encouraging an understanding of our shared past. Through a variety of lectures, seminars, panel discussions and conferences, the McConnell Center seeks to bring influential political leaders, business executives, and accomplished scholars to the University of Louisville, where their insights and examples can serve the community and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Students associated with the Center have met such distinguished leaders as President George Bush, President Mikhail Gorbechev of the former Soviet Union, U.S. Senator Bill Bradley, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and secretaries of state Madeleine Albright, George Schultz, and James Baker.
Kentucky Historical Society - http://history.ky.gov/index.php
The Kentucky Historical Society was formed in 1836 by a group of prominent Kentuckians intent on preserving the history of the commonwealth. It was chartered as the state society in 1838 and began to collect books and printed materials. The Society became an agency of Kentucky state government in the early 1950s. The Society, an agency of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, has more than 3,900 members and more than 1,300 junior members to whom it provides support and educational services. Outreach programs collaborate with more than 430 local historical organizations. The Kentucky Historical Society engages people in the exploration of the commonwealth’s diverse heritage. Through comprehensive and innovative services, interpretive programs, and stewardship, we provide connections to the past, perspective on the present, and inspiration for the future. The Society collects, preserves, conserves, interprets, and shares information, memories, and materials from Kentucky’s past to assist those interested in exploring and preserving that heritage. This mission is served through:
Museum collections, housing over 120,000 artifacts
- Oral History collection, containing 8,000 oral history interviews
- Libraries and Special Collections housing over 67,000 volumes, 9,100 rare books, 200,000 historic photographs, 1,900 cubic feet of manuscripts, and 2,000 maps.
